June 21, 2000Billy Tucci revs up CBLDF Auction Extravaganza
After a hiatus of more than two years, Tucci feels that this charitable act is an appropriate way to celebrate his return to "Shi" and to comics. "I wanted to give a little something back to the industry that has changed my life," Tucci stated. "The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund is a great organization, and the sole representative of the rights of the comics industry. By making these donations I hope I'll help draw some attention to the CBLDF's cause and give them a helping hand. At the same time, I'm sharing some of my rewards with our wonderful fans."
"When Billy first talked to me about the bike at Big Easy Con," said CBLDF executive director CHRIS OARR, "I knew he was sincere. But the sheer magnitude of his donation took a while to sink in. And then he threw in all the original art from the new 'Shi' comic! This is an unbelievable gesture on Billy's part, and it sets a remarkable example for the rest of the comic community." The "Shi: Year of the Dragon" Motorcycle is a customized Bimota SB6, a very rare sport motorcycle hand-built in Italy and valued at more than $25,000.00. The cycle is custom painted, emblazoned with a dragon's wing and images of Shi--everyone's favorite sultry sohei warrior. It's one of Tucci's most prized possessions, but he decided to put it to better use. "I've had so many offers for the Bimota," said Tucci. "But I thought I could use it to benefit a great cause and help protect our First Amendment rights." The cycle will be joined on the virtual auction block by the complete
original artwork from "Shi: Year of the Dragon" #1. This is Tucci's
first "Shi" series in more than two years, and tells the story
of 17-year-old Ana Ishindex.shtmlto regain her family's honor. The CBLDF Auction Extravaganza includes many other coveted comics collectibles, including NEIL GAIMAN's famed leather jacket (at right). There's also original artwork from STEVE LIEBER, FRANK MILLER, ADRIAN TOMINE, JILL THOMPSON, TIMOTHY TRUMAN, CHARLES VESS, JUDD WINICK, and many more. And for the comics connoisseur, there's a luxury cabin for two aboard MAKING WAVES 2001, the second CBLDF Cruise.
