Comicon.com Raises $6,700 In First Week of Auction

Comicon.com’s CBLDF benefit auction is well on its way to being the CBLDF’s most important fundraising event of the year. The first week’s items closed on Thursday morning and pulled in a phemonemal $6,710!

The highest earning item was an original Frank Miller page promoting The Dark Knight Strikes Again, which earned $5,500! Comicon.com founder Rick Veitch’s cover from Swamp Thing # 83 pulled in $550, while art donations from Howard Cruse, Marc Hempel, G.B. Trudeau, Bryan Talbot, and James Sturm each brought in well over $650 for the Fund.

The auction continues this week with 13 awesome items including original art and special merchandise donated to raise much-needed funds for the Fund. Among this week’s originals are a Zippy strip by Bill Griffith; a Warlord page by Mike Grell; and an illustration by Megan Kelso. Steve Geppi, Diamond Select, and Diamond Comic Distributors have contributed three sets of Marvel busts; while Veitch contributed an ultra-rare promotional item from The Dark Knight Returns signed by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley. The CBLDF is currently appealing the conviction of Texas retailer Jesus Castillo for “promoting obscenity” by selling an adult comic book to an adult to the U.S. Supreme Court. The money earned from this auction will assist the Fund in that appeal and in paying off earlier legal work performed in the Castillo case and Stu Helm’s battle with Kraft over the now-forbidden nickname King VelVeeda.

Check out the Comicon.com auction page here to check out this week’s items. Bidding on this week’s items closes December 1. Keep your eyes on Comicon.com, as even more cool items will be offered until the auction closes on December 12.
