2003 Jim Lee Member Cards Are In!

Like the iconic characters he draws, Jim Lee is a crusader for good causes. Last fall, as he began his run as artist on DC Comics’ Batman, the industry’s #1 comic book, he gave back to the comics industry by putting himself on the auction block to raise money for the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund – a fundraiser that brought in $8,700 for the Fund’s casework. Today he continues his commitment to comics by providing the stunning all new art for the 2003 CBLDF Member card!

“The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund is indispensable and vital to the health and growth of our business and artform,” Lee says. Likewise, membership is vital to the health of the CBLDF, providing the financial baseline the organization needs to fight legal cases and create resources that assist the comics community in defending its First Amendment rights. Lee’s outstanding member card is a special thank you to those members who keep the Fund strong. This art will not be available in any other format.

Lee says, "The breadth and diversity of the comic book marketplace keeps growing every year. If we're serious about continuing that growth, retailers need to be safe to display, promote, and sell all of that diverse product. If we don't want the exposure of comic books to be limited to a retailer's fear of a local prosecutor, then we need to get behind the CBLDF."

"There's a direct connection between retailers and creators, and I feel that the creative community needs to support retailers against prosecution," Lee adds. "By supporting the Fund, we can make that happen. If everyone that's part of comics does their part and joins the Fund, then each small part will add up to a gigantic war chest.”
