COMICON.COM HOLIDAY AUCTION RAISES $7,800 FOR CBLDF
The Second Annual Comicon.com Holiday Auction closed on Christmas Eve raising $7,800 for the CBLDF. Brainchild of Comicon.com founders Rick Veitch and Steve Conley, the duo established the annual benefit auction last year as a way of giving back to the Fund.
“The CBLDF is out there doing the work that protects comics online and in the shops, so Steve and I felt that we should support their efforts in any way we can,” says Rick Veitch.
Their support brought in three dozen items that were auctioned off including original art, signed scripts, and rare books from a diversity of creators. This year’s highest earning items were Frank Cho’s variant cover to More Fund Comics #1 which sold for $2,000; Jim Lee original art from Batman: Hush which sold for $1,026,George Perez’s JLA/Avengers cover art to the Wizard World Texas program book which sold for $820.00, and a two page spread from Promethea by J.H. Williams which closed for $511.00.
“Steve and Rick brought in a lot of great items that helped the Fund put some extra money into its War Chest this year. Our supporters got some great deals and were able to benefit from the generosity of the pro community and keep the Fund strong in this fantastic auction,” says CBLDF Director Charles Brownstein.
Steve Conley says, ”Comicon.com has always been about nurturing the comics community by providing a space online for professionals and fans to talk about the artform we love. Rick and I are glad to give back to comics by supporting the CBLDF with this annual event. We’re looking forward to making next year’s auction even bigger.”
