Experience The Magic of MirrorMask At CBLDF Comic-Con Welcome Party!

The Jim Henson Company, Destination Films, Samuel Goldwyn Films, and Dark Horse have teamed up to support the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund by hosting the Fund's MirrorMask Welcome Party at Comic-Con International. Featuring art, props, and images from the upcoming film MirrorMask —in theaters September 30—this gala party will be held at the Westgate Hotel's Terrace Under the Stars on Thursday July 14 from 8 PM until 11 PM. The catered event will be free to card-carrying CBLDF members and open to all others for a suggested $5 - $15 sliding scale donation. Attendees will also receive a MirrorMask Takeaway, courtesy of The Jim Henson Company, be entered into a special raffle, and view a trailer of the film.

From the imagination of CBLDF board member Neil Gaiman and visionary artist Dave McKean, MirrorMask tells the story of Helena, a fifteen-year-old girl working for her family circus, who wishes—quite ironically—that she could run away from the circus and join real life. But such is not to be the case, as she finds herself on a strange journey into the Dark Lands, a fantastic landscape filled with giants, Monkeybirds and dangerous sphinxes. Helena searches for the MirrorMask, an object of enormous power that is her only hope of escaping the Dark Lands, waking the Queen of Light and returning home.

"This welcome party is going to be the must-attend event to kick off Comic-Con," says CBLDF Executive Director Charles Brownstein. "We've captured the atmosphere of McKean's mesmerizing world on the Westgate's beautiful outdoor terrace, with footage and artifacts from the film, plus door prizes, giveaways and special surprises. Some of comics’ biggest stars will be coming out for this party, making it the perfect way to kick off Comic-Con and support the Fund's defense of the field's First Amendment rights. We're honored to be working with Henson, Destination, Samuel Goldwyn Films, and Dark Horse to create this fantastic event."

Michael Polis, an executive producer of the film, Senior Vice President of Marketing for The Jim Henson Company and member of CBLDF said, “We are looking forward to celebrating Dave and Neil's first feature film and proud to support CBLDF as they welcome guests to Comic Con in style”

“Dark Horse has been thrilled to be able to participate in MirrorMask as a licensee," Dark Horse Product Development head David Scroggy noted. "We are delighted to be able to premiere some of our program at the CBLDF party at Comic-Con. Among other items, we are donating the #1 copy of our limited-edition Dark Queen bust to CBLDF for the event, which promises to be one of the highlights of Comic-Con. "

The CBLDF's MirrorMask Welcome Party is on Thursday July 14, starting at 8 PM. The Westgate is located at 1055 Second Avenue in Downtown San Diego. MirrorMask props and merchandise will also be available in the Fund’s Saturday night auction.
